CMABS News: October 6, 2025

Fall is in full swing. Let’s dive into what is going on in the life of our city’s streets right now. ⤵️

ATC reviews the next phase of Fairview Road’s transformation — and we spotted a Costa Mesa first! 😍

Last month we reported that the City Council approved a $2.86 million active transportation and rehabilitation project for Fairview Road between Newport Boulevard and Fair Drive, which will include awesome upgrades like Class IV protected bike lanes, high-viz crosswalks, and drool-worthy floating bus boarding islands.

Now, the city is proposing more upgrades to Fairview Road, this time between Fair Drive and Adams Avenue. While theseimprovements aren’t as dramatic at first glance, let’s see if you can spot a bike lane upgrade that we don’t have anywhere else in the city yet:

Did you spot the “Class IV cycle track with raised concrete medians”? If so, congratulations! While these concrete-protected lanes have popped up in Santa Ana and in Irvine, we’ve never installed any in Costa Mesa before. GREAT JOB PUBLIC WORKS!! We are excited to see this one come together.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Fall Social!

As usual it was a great time at Greek Cheek Beer for our Fall Social the other week. It was great getting to catch up with in-the-know locals about upcoming transportation projects, including the Fairview Road project above. Want to stay plugged in? Keep an eye on this newsletter for the next social date — we would love to see you there!

Do you love the GOAT? Come to City Council to support expanding the service area!

The City Council is meeting Tuesday, October 7th (that’s tomorrow!) at 6:00pm at City Hall to go over a pretty big agenda. During old business item #1 the Council will consider approving an expansion of the “Let’s Go Costa Mesa” on demand ride service, which provides free on-demand rides in a bounded service area including parts of the Westside and E. 17th Street. The program has been so successful that the City is being offered a larger grant to expand the service area up the east side of Newport Boulevard.

If you have taken a ride on Let’s Go Costa Mesa (or its vanpool cousin, the GOAT) or if you just like the idea, PLEASE CONSIDER sending or calling in a public comment and urge the City Council to support its expansion. Public transportation makes for better streets! REMEMBER: any written comments must be sent to the Costa Mesa City Clerk by 12:00pm the day of the meeting!

If you need help with your comments, reach out to jenn@cmabs.org.

That’s all for now. Have a great week!
