CMABS News: December 1, 2025

Happy Holidays! ☃️ Let’s dive into what is going on in the life of our city’s streets right now. ⤵️

World Day of Remembrance

On Sunday, November 16, Costa Mesa hosted its first-ever World Day of Remembrance gathering and memorial ride, joining cities around the country in honoring our neighbors who have been killed or seriously injured by local traffic violence. CMABS was proud to help organize and support the event.

We began at City Hall, where residents, advocates, faith leaders, and city staff shared powerful stories and spoke to the urgent need for safer, slower streets. From there, riders set out together to visit fatality sites across the city—Arlington/Junipero, Adams/Pinecreek, Newport Blvd at 18th, Victoria/Placentia, and more—leaving flowers, hearing reflections on the lives lost, and learning about the projects underway to prevent future tragedies.

The national theme, Safe Speeds Save Lives, shaped the afternoon. At each stop, speakers highlighted how the design and speed of our streets affect public safety, and how Costa Mesa is beginning to make meaningful changes.

The ride concluded at Fairview Community Church for a taco-bar community dinner from @cocinacultura, giving everyone space to connect, reflect, and talk about what comes next.

Thank you to everyone who showed up, spoke up, volunteered, or simply rode with us. The day was a moving reminder of why this work matters—and why building safer, slower, more human streets in Costa Mesa remains essential.

There’s another SRTS meeting coming up. And the survey is still live!

We know that you’re likely not thinking much about January right now, but we encourage you to take a quick moment and mark your calendars for the final Safe Routes to School (SRTS) meeting:

January 15th from 6pm—8pm
Kaiser Elementary School
.

The City and its consultants are hosting these meetings to get your input. No one knows the safety conditions around your local school like you do, so your insight is invaluable. The final meeting will be hosted at Kaiser, but the City wants feedback on the environments around all public elementary schools in Costa Mesa.

We also encourage you to take the survey and share it with friends and neighbors! Visit the project website to learn more and add your input. You’ll find both a short survey and an interactive map where you can mark locations, leave comments, and see what others have shared.

That’s all for now. Have a great week!
